Leveling a Honey Bee Hive It is important that a honey bee hive is placed on level ground with good drainage. We started by selecting a southern facing location, excavating down about 4 inches, spreading coarse gravel for drainage, leveling, and placing large concrete blocks on which to install the hives.

Placing the HiveOnce the sight was leveled we placed the concrete blocks and re-leveled the concrete blocks by adjusting the loose gravel. The site is now ready to set the hive in place.
